Bird Surveys
All wild birds are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) making it an offence to kill, injure or take them or to destroy or damage any wild birds nest whilst it is under construction or in use. Some species have extra protection under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 making it an offence to intentionally or recklessly disturb adults near the nest or dependent young.

As a result many different people and organisations have a requirement for professional bird survey work to be undertaken. I have been providing a range of professional specialist bird surveying services for a wide variety of clients since 2001.
I have worked extensively on a large number of proposed onshore wind farm projects at locations across the UK, undertaking a full range of ornithological surveys required for such developments. In addition I have worked on proposed pipeline schemes, cable routes, housing and varied industrial developments, and undertaken varied bird surveys for local authorities and other government agencies, charities and private individuals.
For over 10 years I undertook monitoring of various farmland environmental improvement schemes delivered by schemes such as Higher Level Stewardship on farms in the Vale of Pickering (North Yorkshire).
